Game was, on 13 August, 2009, notified by SACCAWU, of the union’s intention to embark on protected industrial action commencing on 17 August, 2009. This follows the declaration of a wage dispute by the union on 29 July, 2009, after the failure of intensive mediation efforts at the Council for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).

Game has, in response, informed SACCAWU of its intention to embark on a lockout of those union members who participate in the industrial action. It is envisaged that the lockout will continue until the dispute is resolved.

The company has offered an across the board (ATB) increase of R330 or 8% whichever is greater whilst SACCAWU’s position remains unchanged at R500 ATB.

Game management has made arrangements to ensure that all stores will continue to trade normally for the duration of the industrial action. The company is committed to working with SACCAWU to resolve the dispute.
