Massmart’s Supplier Development Programme has partnered with the City of Joburg for a second time to provide local manufacturers an opportunity to showcase their market-ready products and services. The event, which takes place today, serves as an excellent marketing opportunity for entrepreneurs and provides them with a chance to become a Massmart supplier.

Massmart’s Supplier Development lead Sherry-Lee Singh, reiterated Massmart’s commitment to growing local suppliers: “We are focussed on growing our local talent and investing in local products and manufacturing. Massmart has played an advisory role to 17 listed suppliers but we hope to increase this number substantially over the next few years.”
Director of Trade and Investment at the City of Johannesburg Reginald Phola said: “The City of Johannesburg’s collaboration with Massmart intends to increase the investment base by promoting job creation, attracting skills and encouraging supplier development”.

The event will start with a short discussion including tips on how to supply big retailers. Exhibitors will also get a chance to showcase their products to Massmart buyers. Successful product and service offerings may be given an opportunity to be part of Massmart’s supplier development programme.

The main objective of Massmart’s Supplier Development Programme is to improve local procurement linkages and market access for black-owned and women-owned businesses. To date, the programme has disbursed more than R71.2 million towards helping small suppliers grow their businesses.
