Game and Makro stores trading normally

The protest action by SACCAWU has had no notable impact on trading activities at Makro and Game stores and all stores are open for normal trade.
With reference to our press release of 20 July, the one day of SACCAWU protest action at Game and Makro stores has gone ahead. Makro management met with SACCAWU officials yesterday (23 July) but the parties were unable to achieve agreement on a workable wage settlement.
In the case of the “conditions of employment” dispute with Game the union has elected to continue with its protest action, notwithstanding the fact that both parties are still awaiting a labour court ruling on the matter. In addition, a number of employees who had previously refused to use the time and attendance system, which is the subject of the Game dispute, chose to use the system for the first time today.
We respect the fact that employees have a right to participate in industrial action. Equally, we are mindful of the difficult situation of those employees who have not reported for work but have chosen to stay at home rather than participate in the protest,” says Brian Leroni, Group Corporate Affairs Executive.
